Eid-e-Milad, also referred to Eid Milad-un-Nabi and Mawlid, is being celebrated in all parts of the world barring the Indian subcontinent on November 9. In India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, the festival commemorating the birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) will be observed on November 10. Urdu shayaris or couplets are preferred to be sent by believers in the Indo-Pak region for wishing each other on the occasion.
For Eid-e-Milad 2019 greetings in Urdu, LatestLY has compiled a list of verses extracted from the poems of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. The 20th century Islamic philosopher, writer and poet had extensively expressed his love for the Holy Prophet (pbuh) through his writings.
The six verses below, which are apt for sharing on the occasion of Mawlid, are selected from Zauq-o-Shauq, one of the most popular nazm of Iqbal. The verses highlight the poet’s devotion towards Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) and his deep understanding of how Islam revolves around the final messenger of Allah.

The final two verses, as shared further below, were written by Iqbal in his most renowned poem Jawab-e-Shikwa. Written in 1913, the poem was a continuation of Shikwa or “Lament” which Iqbal had written to compel the Muslim ummah to reflect upon their state of misery and return to the Quranic roots and Prophetic traditions to emancipate themselves.

Incidentally, Eid-e-Milad dates this year collide with the birth anniversary of Allama Iqbal as per the gregorian calendar. The “Shayar-e-Mashriq or Poet of the East” — as he was popularly referred to — was born on November 9, 1877 in Sialkot (now part of Pakistan’s Punjab province). His birth anniversary is commemorated annually as Iqbal Day in Pakistan, Turkey, Afghanistan and Iran.
